TECHNICAL FEATURES
Power efficient and flexible
Power consumption is 60% lower than a tube (Ball) mill of similar capacity.
Furthermore, in the Ball Race Mill the motor current varies with load – saving
power when the mill is running at part load.
Excellent wear characteristics
The mill design facilitates that a major portion of the grinding occurs coal to coal
rather than coal to metal increasing the wear life of the grinding elements.
Wear independent performance
In the Alstom Ball Race Mills the track and balls wear evenly and in such a manner
as to keep constant the net surface area available for milling.

COST EFFICIENCY
Saves 7 KWh/t of coal compared to
ball mill. Installation cost comparable
to a ball mill.

The balls are free to rotate in any direction,
hence they wear spherically. At the
same time the track wears deeper to
accommodate a larger surface area of
the ball as it declines in radius due to
wear. Consequently product output
remains the same throughout the wear
life of the grinding elements.

RELIABILITY
Longer life of wear elements. Product
capacity and fineness does not change
due to wearing of grinding elements.
AVAILABILITY
> 95% thanks to negligible rejects and
high reliability.
