manufacturer of large and complex components for

The parent company, Dongfang Electric Corpora-

is emphasizing nuclear power generation as one of

the ways to reduce pollution from traditional coal-

fired power plants and to meet the country's rapidly

growing energy demands.

In 2006, the first construction phase of the

nnnn

manufacturing plant incorporated a Megadoor that

nnnn

would allow a 1 400 ton overhead crane to exit the

nnnn

building to unload large rough materials and load

nnnn

finished components onto transport ships. Phase two

added an additional building and manufacturing

nnnn

capacity requiring seven doors ranging in size

nnnn

from 6x6 m (20' x 20') to 12.5 x 8 m (41' x 26').

In addition, the owner requested the replacement of

nnnn

two bottom-rolling doors originally installed during

nnnn

phase one. These doors were only three-years old,

nnnn

but required constant maintenance and were a

nnnn

headache for everyone. Based on Megadoors'

performance in phase one, the owner specified

nnnn

Megadoors for these nine door openings too.

During the open bid process, the owner received a

quotation from a local Chinese door company who

nnnn

"copied" the Megadoor and offered a price almost

50% lower than Megadoor. Obviously, this got

the attention of the owner, who decided to investi-

gate the alternative. The DFHM Facility Manager

nnnn

and his team independently visited another manu-

nnnn

facturing plant where these local "copies" were in-

nnnn

stalled to review the door system and meet with

nnnn

the end user. After the trip, the DFHM team con-

nnnn

cluded that high reliability and minimized mainte-

nnnn

nance cost were critical issues, and that Megadoor

nnnn

best matched the quality and reliability required in

nnnn

modern manufacturing facilities. They therefore

nnnn

ordered Megadoor.
