Automatic Tracking
automatic tracking 11.2013
The Automatic Tracking, AT, will ensure a correct
belt movement and keep the belt within certain
side limits. With this active tracking device it is
possible to handle situations when the running
conditions are not constant. E.g. the product is
loaded onto the belt differently from time to time,
temperature changes or uneven flow, etc.
Scope of supply
The AT comprises a frame, an electrical motor with integrated
gearbox, a pulley bearing connected to a pressure unit, a control
box containing electric equipment for the tracking device and
rotation sensors.
The pressure unit consists of housing and a pushing/pulling screw
attached to the bearing box, which is displaceable longitudinally
along the belt length.
Function description
In order to get a controlled tracking of the belt, the conveyor
frame has to be stiff enough and the belt tensioning system ensure
a parallel movement of the tension drum bearings
The tracking effect is achieved by adjusting the position for one of
the pulley bearing boxes longitudinally along the belt length. Note
that belt running direction does not influence the tracking effect.
The belt does move towards the side with the lowest tension.
AT CP80
Placing
The AT is normally placed at the drive drum and on the opposite
side of the belt drive. The belt tracking device can also be placed at
the tensioning end as long as the parallel movement of the tension
drum bearings are secured.
Sensors
The AT needs at least one pair of belt edge sensors to be connected to the control box. Sensor type inductive and “normally open” is required and the recommended dimensions are
Ø12 mm and 24/230 V.
It is also possible to connect a pair of alarm sensors to the control
box. These sensors enable an alarm signal when belt edge is
too much out of track and should be placed further away from
the belt edge. Sensor type inductive and “normally closed” is
required and the recommended dimensions are Ø12 mm and
24/230 V.
None of these sensors are included in the AT scope of supply but
can be supplied as options.

bearing box
When the belt edge is activating an edge sensor, a small logic
relay controls the movement of the bearing box in a pre-defined
sequence. The sequence can easily be altered to suit the actual
conditions for a specific conveyor.
