KAPTON PEELABLE SHIMS ALKOMPOSIT K
nnnnAlkomposit K laminated peelable shims are high performance
nnnnshims for adjustment made from a composite material. They consist
nnnnof a stack of polyimide (Kapton) leaves, joined
nnnn^^^^^^ together by gluing over the whole surface, thereby
nnnn^^^^^ forming a laminated set of compact appearance.
nnnnJ Each basic leaf constituting the stack can be
nnnn^^^^ peeled off extremely easily, in complete safety
nnnnand by hand, until the exact thickness desired is obtained. The shim
nnnnis therefore perfectly and easily adjusted to compensate accurately
nnnnfor the play in a mechanical assembly.
nnnnThey can satisfy all types of new applications where it is important
nnnnto introduce concepts of insulation and lightness over a wide range
nnnnof temperatures (-269°C to 400°C). Alkomposit shims can be used
nnnnadvantageously to replace machined or ground solid metal shims.
nnnnADVANTAGES:
nnnn- Low density (50% of that of aluminium)
nnnn- Fineness of basic thickness: from 0.025 to 0.1mm
nnnn- Cleaving without tools, by hand
nnnn- Safety in use (almost zero risk
nnnnof cuts)
nnnn- Excellent resistance to chemical
nnnnagents
nnnn- Can be used for damping or as an anti-vibration filter
nnnn- Resistance to a wide range of temperatures: from - 269°C
nnnnto + 400°C (-452°F to +752°F)
nnnn- Avoids problems of contact corrosion
nnnn- Facilitates bending and adaptation to curved surfaces
nnnn- Peeled leaves can be reused
nnnn- Dual functionality (shimming + sealing) under certain
nnnnconditions
