CompactPCI
Forced cooling and high IP protection make CompactPCI systems
suitable for use even in demanding environments. Manufacturers
of CompactPCI components guarantee long availability of the
components used. Modules can be swapped over while the
system is in operation (hot swap). Redundancy can be realised
only to a certain degree. CompactPCI systems are not multiprocessor
capable.
Industrial PC
An IPC is the least costly means of using processors and chips from the
mass PC market in industrial applications. The possible applications are
limited, however, since enhanced requirements for cooling, IP protection
and redundancy cannot be implemented. IPCs are not multiprocessor
capable and the components are available only for a limited time.
MicroTCA
High flexibility, maximum performance and full redundancy, and all in a very small form
factor – this is what sets MicroTCA systems apart. Its hardware management system allows
targeted control of individual boards and thus offers, for example, full hot swap and remote
management – the targeted log-off and shutdown of the board to be replaced. Multiprocessor
ready, with serial data transmission up to 40 Gb/s and a wide range of supported software
protocols, MicroTCA represents the pinnacle of industrial data processing systems.
CompactPCI Plus
CompactPCI Plus is a new standard for multiprocessor-capable, serial
data transmission with performance of up to 32 Gb/s. Various software
protocols allow broad compatibility (e.g. PCIe or USB for graphics
boards and I/Os, S-ATA for hard disks and GbE for multiprocessor
systems). The same form factor as CompactPCI together with the
PICMG 2.30 specification (CompactPCI PlusIO) facilitate a ‚soft‘
migration: existing CompactPCI I/O boards can also be used in the
new systems.
