ENGEN®500
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
SOFCpower-HTceramix provides a microCHP system prototype for testing,
based on the use of a proprietary HotBox power generator assembled with self
produced solid oxide fuel cells.
This system, named ENGEN®, is produced in two power range (up to 500 W
and up to 1000 W), measured in terms of electrical power generation.
The main connections between the ENGEN® and the domestic heating system
are the gas inlet line, the hot water outlet and the cold water return for central
heating, a concentric chimney Diameter 60/100 for flue discharge and air inlet, and the
connection to the electrical grid for electrical production/utilization.
The unit operates with natural gas supplied by the gas network (methane and LPG).
The natural gas before entering the SOFC stack is pre-processed inside the system by a unit
called CPOX (catalytic partial oxidation) that converts the gas into a mixture of hydrogen and
carbon monoxide.
The SOFC stack generates electrical and thermal power.
At stack outlet the exhaust gases are treated in a post-unit that completes the combustion.

Finally the flue gas transfers its thermal energy through a heat exchanger to the water circuit
for domestic heating.
The electrical production efficiency is between 30 – 32 %
The cogeneration itself has an efficiency that reaches the value of the more innovative condensing wall hung boiler.
The ENGEN® system can provide up to 8750 kWh/Y of electrical energy and, combining
it with a standard wall hung boiler, can also fulfill all thermal requirements of the domestic
heating plant.
