Composite Lining Systems
Traditionally, lining systems in primary grinding mills
have been composed of metal castings. However,
inherent problems exist with some all-metal systems.
Composite lining systems are an excellent alternative
for grinding mill applications. Our patented Vulco®
composite liners are made with a combination of
rubber and metal. The resilience and shock absorbing
properties of rubber improve the wear properties of
metal.
Composite lining systems - design benefits
All-metal liners are prone to cracking as they wear into
thinner dimensions causing unscheduled shut downs
and replacements. During maintenance, cracked liners
may dislodge and fall inside the mill endangering
workers.
Vulco® composite lining systems use the resilience of
rubber to cushion the impact on the metal elements.
Base plate construction and the vulcanized rubber
sections reduce and control cracking even when the
liner has worn quite thin.
The cost of unscheduled downtime can be reduced
with composite linings. Safety issues arising from
falling cracked liners in the mill are also reduced.
Lead time reduction and increased availability
Because of current demand and foundry capacity, the
lead time for cast liners can be as long as 50 weeks.
The lead time for composite systems can be less than
half the lead time of metal liners.
Reduced downtime
Experience has shown that composite lining systems
may be changed in less time than conventional metal
liners with savings up to 50%. Less downtime equals
higher production.
The cost savings of reduced downtime and overall
operating availability makes the Vulco® composite
lining system an excellent choice for many primary
grinding mills.
